Wambui Kogi Makau, Linet Thuku, et al., University if Nairobi

FoodLAND, the Food and Local Agricultural Nutrition Diversity project being implemented by 28 partners, coordinated by the University of Bologna, Italy, brings Europe and Africa under one implementation umbrella for betterment of human nutrition.

FoodLAND conducts research in six African countries (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Morocco and Tunisia) that has so far generated 360 nutritional recommendations (NRs) with 121 dedicated to Kenya. The NRs are globally relevant so it is important that everyone is aware of them. This X is dedicated to NR64 ‘Product Labelling’ an alert to risky foods that pre-dispose individuals to health and nutritional risks:

“Excessive intake of sugar is harmful to your health”,

“Excessive salt intake is harmful to your health”,

“Excessive consumption of ultra-processed snacks is harmful- avoid them”,

“Excessive intake of carbonated drinks is harmful to your health”,

“Excessive intake of fast foods is harmful to your health.”

Food product manufacturers do insert alerts in all food products meriting any of the five labels shown above.
